In Pursuit of Life, Liberty and Laughter
Little boxes on an island, Little boxes made of ticky-tacky, There's a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yellow one and they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same. And the people in the houses All go to the university, And they all get put in boxes, Little boxes, all the same. And there's doctors and there's lawyers and business executives, and they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same.

Taxi Drivers

Singapore Taxi Drivers

I take taxi often and i feel too often for a turning 18 year old girl in a few months. 10-15 is the number of times i take taxi in a month. You must be thinking "how horrible! is she filthy rich?" I WISH. Taking taxi is just like going for a relaxing, comfortable, smooth ride home especially when the weather is freaking warm on this tiny island.

Taxi drivers are like blood suckers but only in terms of money!!! Peak hour in the evening starts at 5pm and ends at 8pm. Few days back i deliberately waited till 810pm to take a cab to avoid the peak hour surcharge of $2. ONCE i step in their clock shows 759pm! Seems like the meter isn't working eh? Cheat #1.

A classic taxi driver cheat method is to make mistakes and turn rounds and rounds even though my instruction is so clear i could take over the wheel. Cheat #2.

Driving at 50km/hr along the neighbourhood streets allows them to stop at almost every single traffic light. If you even bother to read the labels on the window (i did, he stopped at all the traffic light) it writes "10cents for every 30seconds of waiting". Lets pretend we have to wait for 10 traffic light it would probably cost $2? HELLLLO? If you are driving so slowly i might as well take the bus! Cheat #3.

Cheat #4 is the best of the best. During peak hour when you see queues at taxi stand as long as queues for doughnuts. Have you ever wondered where are all the drivers? So you are sick of waiting for 3omins and there is 7more people to go you pick up your newest stylist hand phone and call for a cab. Peak hour +$2, on call +$4, entering would be a standard $2.50 any day. Soooooo once you step in you are paying $8.50. wouldn't you rather use that money to buy me a drink? :)

Taxi drivers who does all that, please make a DECENT living.

And now drivers that are way too rude.
#1- start complaining about their life
#2- asks me too much questions about my life in the form of INTERROGATION
#3- ones that is way too proud of their street knowledge
#4- having a phone buddy
#5- those that tries to get you killed
#6- Can't even reply a thank you, have a good day.
#7- not having enough change for a $50 note and expects me to get to 711. Even has the guts to give me excuse and blame it on me.

Do you remember last year? This taxi driver is so dishonest he claimed an extra $30 per head over the standard taxi fare these tourist had to pay. What would tourist think of Singapore as? A certain number of drivers are shit. They can't work with others that's why they are working solo. Which is worst treating customers like that.
Just to let you know, i do not bare any hatred towards any drivers. There are drivers which gives me a wonderful ride home.

THANK YOU
#1- driving at 120km/hr since the road is empty :)
#2- striking a interesting conversation and know where the limits are
#3- saying my thank you and good night back :)
#4- switching radio station for me
#5- those extremely polite ones that appreciate me being friendly. hey. i know it's boring to drive all day long.
#6- taking the specific route as requested

okay. I'm hungry. I'm going to snack on lays and have fruit juice.
